Well now that we have seen YSR working to get a separate Telangana, the outcry is that, he is a gandhi. Well I m not sure. I am thinking what would have Gandhi done for a separate state hood. The first principle of satya-grah is non violence and mass mobilization. Though YSR did mobilize the masses but could not attain non violence. Public property was burnt by mob(TSR supporters), home of politician was attacked and all kinds of hooligan was displayed. Then the question is, why did he succeed. Well his success is not his own success but a cumulative negatives and positives. The weak government in AP could not control the violence. The media blew the issues putting pressure on the center. Though this small movement gathered mass support, it will have a bad effect on overall political situations.
Leaders will assume it as a new Gandhian way to protest. On one hand they will burn buses, and on the other they will fast. The former scares the state rulers of riots and later shows their sacrifice to get emotional benefits. Media get stories from both ends. If I were at the top, I would have certainly requested my supporters to all go on fast and try sacrifice instead of burning buses, try for once and show their will by not acting against police when they thrash them, try and educate the opponents about the need of separate state and include them in agitation and work for people not against them.
But its not easy to be Gandhi but its easier to be YSR.

ऊपर नीचे गगन तरु पर,
हँसता गाता रात दिन सारे
जीवन की इस बेला को,
बहुत दिनों से चाह था,
मद मस्त हुआ मैं जानू क्या,

पर फ़िर जीवन ने मोड़ लिया,
दीपों की लौ घट जाने लगी,
पग पर घावों की तडपन ने,
अश्रु भावों के आने लागे,

wakeupYMI
solitude sometimes teaches you the reality. I just watched wake up sid. Nice flick, without a story. There are rare movies in indian cinema which have story now a days. Some work, others dont. There is no real formula to make them hit. Their crew call them different! Huhh... Right!! you must have heard it before but there are less which leaves impact. Ye mera India is one of them. Very less being heard of. No publicity, no international audience appeal yet an amazing sense of commitment towards society. Wake sid was another one, very simple with no story. Just a normal life drama of a of a struggle-r and a college going brat. Sometimes they seem to be so contrasting movies but yet both leaves mark. It had been puzzling to me how these artist make it work.
Both had no masala in it. No guest characters and not even item numbers, still they bind you to the seat as if your own life is being depicted. Those small melodies on back ground reminds me of the sounds of rain in real life or sometimes the hymns in next door temple. My full stars to both of them---whatever that means...
By the way I should not be too emotional about hindi movies coz' i know the next in row will be a trash.
Three cheers to both of the movies. ..

Good Change
I have started realizing that in a life time things change and change is always good. But what is change and or good change? Here are two terms that are confusing 'change' and 'good'. If we analyze first 'change' over a large period is not even change.It's merely a point in a loop that comes back. Lets take an example, fashion. It keeps repeating itself in the name of change even though its a biggest bandwagon. Conal Sherry explains this as "cromo effect" where people fall into a herd mentality and think that they are progressing for change. However nothing changes from within, its just a perception that I changed makes us feel different. So the feel of being different makes us think that we are superior. We shall come back on this after we look into "good" as a relative idea in society.
"Good" is one of the most used word in the world and it implies welfare. It may be a question that what is good for me, turns out to be bad for you. And so its always a tussle between the new mavericks and old gods to prove that whatever they say is right and "Good". I call old generation to be old gods as they consider their experience to be the best tool which they can use to decree youth for their "Good" future. I call new generation as bunch of rebellions who wants to rebel anything and everything with or without reason, just to prove that they are different and they know their "Good". A so called identity problem.
So the old gods, when are new(rebellions), break some traditions and make new ones. They now want new to follow the ones they made. Just a conundrum where everyone seems to be right and there seems to be no right balance about it. A most common example is parents telling their children that the course they are taking will all be in vane. Now parents think that children are wrong and children think that parents don't know current world. According to later the world has changed while parents think that their prediction will be right because they have seen the world and world has always been same.
So there is a constant tussle between connotations in good and change. When I view two sides, I find both of them just, even though they are contradicting. It's something like this : A tower's shadow is seen on right if sun is on left while same shadow dances to left once sun goes other way. Tower is same in both cases. Though if the viewer turn the side, the left and right may also contradict each other.

Losing Neighbors
Losing Neighbors
The last five years had been very crucial as a country for India. We have seen changes with respect to relations our immediate neighbors. Post 26/11 resulted in a bitter side of Pakistan relations while the change of government in Bangladesh was a pro India decision by its people. While Pakistan was never a good neighbor, the relations with Bangladesh always depended on the regime of the elected government.
Since India never seemed to be very confident of Pakistan and Bangladesh relations, therefore a small change of relation in any form does not affected the polity and diplomacy to large scale. Although, the underlining U-turns are expected from Sri Lanka and Nepal, both were considered close allies of India in various forums internationally. Also, both represent cultural part of Indian sub continent. Tamils of Sri Lanka and India are same people and have a close affinity to each other. Similarly Nepal free borders, Pashupati Nath and a major Hindu demography make it a part of cultural state of the sub continent. Nonetheless, the Gorkhas in Indian Army are the Nepali and eastern UP people. The marriages of Indians with Nepalese are common and traditional too. The huge migration of people from Nepal to India for work was never questioned in India. Bollywood is another binding in the rock solid relations of India with Nepal. The famous actress Manisha Koirala comes from Nepal. The participation of Nepalese in various talk shows and reality TV shows is also integrating. All in all, Nepal had always been a closest ally of India in everything.
However the last four years had been a drastic change in the polity of these nations. The overthrow of the Kingdom in Nepal by Maoist party and a direct war of Sri Lanka with LTTE is going to change a lot of things as far as India is concerned. This change is expected not in favor of India. The effective dullness and poor foreign policy of India is the reason why India may no more enjoy the affinity of these countries. Let see this one by one.
Sri Lanka is struggling with LTTE from over last three decades and the reason was the unfair treatment given to Tamils as minority. The Singhalese always considered Tamils as a second grade citizens. This resulted in poverty and sufferings to one community in island nation. Moreover these are the people whom India relates itself to. Prabhakaran was supported as result, to lead a mass movement, to fight for the rights by the then Indira Gandhi government. But as many say, power comes with responsibility; the finicky LTTE chief took hasty decisions of assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, which resulted in India withdrawing complete support. Well the first and foremost loss of Tamil cause was then started. Although there were many sympathizers of Tamils, which included some Dravidian parties but they were merely vocal cords. They were almost in every government at the center and state but never energized any flux to the foreign policy relation to Sri Lanka. In last 4 years, India seems to have missed the opportunity to make LTTE and Lankans agree on a common agenda. Despite, we refused to even mediate in it. Well there is another aspect of it. No one in the foreign affairs is concerned with Sri Lanka. They issue some statements on the behest of some virtual pressure from their allies in south. There is almost no influence of India on Sri Lanka. The current War has left thousands of Tamils dead in the north of Island nation. UN and India both are shedding crocodile tears but vows for no mediation. So what’s the impact of all this? Lets understand very clearly that a truce of India supported LTTE and Singhalese army would have resulted in a mixed government and a just polity in Sri Lanka. Since we have called the shots, the same people theory would have open tons of future alignments of India with Lanka. A close neighbor and natural ally mean one less headache. From the point of view of economics the island nation could be helped to become a port hub for all Southeast Asian countries and India would have been equally benefited. The regional collaboration could have resulted in joint army’s and open borders meaning less expenditure on ocean waters. Free fisherman boundaries, which could have been, boost for the poor fisherman community of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. But we lost it for now. LTTE losing means that army will be overconfident about its might. Tamils will be repressed and even can lead to an ethnic cleansing. The lost voice of Tamil is not in India’s favor. So this results in non-harmonious Lanka. Now to win over support the over confident Lanka may voice anti India slogans to gain money and sympathy from the enemies. Pakistan and China had been luring Lanka from decades to become its ally. So if that happens we will have another Kashmir or northeast in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Lets now focus on Nepal. The Hindu nation became communist!! Sorry Democratic. The terror outfit of Nepal ousted the King with a civil coup. The result was elections. No Indian help reached Katmandu. The sleeping weak Indian government and a dormant policy overlooked the happenings. The election resulted in the winning of Maoist party (the then terror outfit). It was said that the elections were free and fair but we all know that a democratic people of Nepal would have not voted they way it looked. Prachanda, well known for his hate towards India, becomes the prime minister. The new constitution was constituted and everyone vowed to be democratic. The shock to Delhi came when Prachanda visited china after swearing in to the highest post. It clearly showed the drifting of Nepal from India. Then he proposed greater collaboration of China in Nepal by joining the countries with a rail tunnel across Himalayas. Furthermore, he questioned the Indian treaties with Nepal and sack them citing that they are old and biased. Delhi was mum and the government was busy with nuclear deal. The end of the tether reached when Prachanda sacked the pujaris of Pashupatinath. This time Nepal was not quiet. This action was opposed by every quarter in Nepal and as a result he had to succumb to withdrawal. Though it was not his defeat but an experiment to understand the pulse of the citizens. He questioned the open borders with India terming it as security concern. If you see he is trying to sabotage the basic pillars of Indo-Nepal relations. What did we do? There was absolutely no pressure from India to Nepal about either China or any of those issues. Moreover we were showing interest in revocation of treaties and their revivals. We all know that Prachanda is just justifying his actions. The treaties can be looked into and amended amicably but there was no reason why was this made so loud.
So here we are, losing all of them who were part and parcel of our culture and who supported us during good and bad times. The reasons will be cited by history and all of us will stand as a culprit to this irresponsibility. We will have to bite the bullet of present inaction.

Buring Kashmir- Failed Indian government
At last the nuclear-ly obsessed PM started proving why only an economist cant lead a country. The whole expectations rose high that after ABV, Manmohan Singh will prove to be the best prime minister, but unfortunately the end of the term seems to be darker. The expectations that were set on the PM was not on solving Kashmir problem or Ram Mandir issue. The expectations were regarding strong economy, solving the crisis at WTO, helping farmers to make agriculture a profitable business etc. I will not call it failure but a result of catastrophic mistakes. PMO had mostly been following defensive approach in planning. Every politician know some basic impending problems and so gradual need to work on their resolution. Its not rocket science, its just simple logic. Everyone knows that Terrorism is going to increase in coming days. We know that some day or the other the Kashmir Problems are going to increase. We know that increase in population would need more resources and need more facilities.
People can argue that its easy to write an Essay about problems sitting in AC but its real challenge to be on ground. But my point is not about the vastness of these problems but initiatives to solve them. An incessant policy to carry things forward no matter who is in power.
Let's go little deeper and try to see what's wrong. In the year 2004, the Kashmir agitation was at its lowest strength. All separatist were on the tables. Proper committees were amalgamated to talk to various groups and people. That was the year when UPA got power. PM welcomed the approach and vowed to carry it forward. Opening of Roads was proposed for Shrinagar Muzaffarabad. CBMs were vowed to be worked out. But nothing happened on the ground. They even stopped talking about it. Kashmir was sidelined as always and the policy of delayed justice was being implemented. PM became the popular Dhratarashtra and whole ministry is a cabal of Kauravs, who do what they want. If you ask each of the ministers, what had been their popular success in last 5 years and they will be mum. Agri minister had been mostly engaged in IPL matches and his wish to take ICC president post, the personality of home minister attracts terrorists(his Fav lines are "we are working" and "we will talk"), Tourism ministry talk big does nothing, Finance ministry is crying foul on Inflation, Foreign minister had been engaged in pampering communists to agree on 123 agreement(Gas Pipeline is being virtually thrown off), PM is as usual obsessed with 123 deal, Education Minister keeps increasing unusual quotas, Heath minister cares about medias' and actors' health more than shabby government hospitals and health programs, and the list goes on.
From the last eight months the whole country is hearing a single issue "Civil Nuclear deal ". What a big deal!! I am not criticizing the agreement here. I m just trying to make a point that only one issue is what one person is obsessed about. The outcome is, mishandling Kashmir issue,(which was at the verge of peace), constant deaths of farmers and labors, increase in terrorism across the most peaceful areas.
The burning Kashmir is the one issue that troubles me and the whole nation. Whole region had started being calm and now there are slogans like "jive jive Pakistan", "Hindustan teri Maut", "Azadi Azadi Azadi". What on earth are we supposed to do when we see one of our states shouting this way. Huge chunks of our money goes to this state to pamper it. It does not do what main stream states do. What was the center doing for 30 days when Amaranth Samiti started its agitation. They do not wake up until people put things on fire. Is this the psyche that Delhi thinks to solve issues. Why is our president so unmoved. Is she just there to cut ribbons or enjoy trips to Mexico with her family? Is that not the duty of the president to alarm the lackluster government.
Kashmir is drifting away. Hundred thousand of people are coming out with green flags in hand asking for freedom. The power centers who were pro nationalist are now turning other way, seeing the response of Delhi.The government is trying to shun its responsibility and try to blame others. They are the people who makes India a soft state and the softness is hailed as tolerance.
This is the way governments had been working in our country from decades. We start taking things as politics but we can not shun it off. Tomorrow when a Kashmiri obsessed youth bombs a bus somewhere and when one of our close relative faces such disaster then we will know what is politics. Everything that is going to be wrong is because of this pretense that we are not into politics and we don't care who is in power, doing what!!

From the last eight months the whole country is hearing a single issue "Civil Nuclear deal ". What a big deal!! I am not criticizing the agreement here. I m just trying to make a point that only one issue is what one person is obsessed about. The outcome is, mishandling Kashmir issue,(which was at the verge of peace), constant deaths of farmers and labors, increase in terrorism across the most peaceful areas.
The burning Kashmir is the one issue that troubles me and the whole nation. Whole region had started being calm and now there are slogans like "jive jive Pakistan", "Hindustan teri Maut", "Azadi Azadi Azadi". What on earth are we supposed to do when we see one of our states shouting this way. Huge chunks of our money goes to this state to pamper it. It does not do what main stream states do. What was the center doing for 30 days when Amaranth Samiti started its agitation. They do not wake up until people put things on fire. Is this the psyche that Delhi thinks to solve issues. Why is our president so unmoved. Is she just there to cut ribbons or enjoy trips to Mexico with her family? Is that not the duty of the president to alarm the lackluster government.
Kashmir is drifting away. Hundred thousand of people are coming out with green flags in hand asking for freedom. The power centers who were pro nationalist are now turning other way, seeing the response of Delhi.The government is trying to shun its responsibility and try to blame others. They are the people who makes India a soft state and the softness is hailed as tolerance.
This is the way governments had been working in our country from decades. We start taking things as politics but we can not shun it off. Tomorrow when a Kashmiri obsessed youth bombs a bus somewhere and when one of our close relative faces such disaster then we will know what is politics. Everything that is going to be wrong is because of this pretense that we are not into politics and we don't care who is in power, doing what!!

Lets start somewhere
From past few weeks I had been thinking why the change is so difficult to produce results. Well, it seems change in itself is not difficult but the process and the initiatives are more energy consuming. I was looking at a report where a eighty year old gentleman had planted 10 thousand trees in his life time. The whole city is thankful to him. The inspiration that can be taken from this man is, his will to go on even though not much change was visible to him. He was telling the reporter that when he first heard that the reason of climatic change is deforestation, he knew that he should do something. He was not like most of us who will mock, criticize and discuss the relevant issues and then forget. He moved beyond with a spirit that someone has to do it sometime.
We as human seem to feel that I don't have time, its not right time for me to do and what can I do. Well all these questions arise due to a mental state of non leadership and laziness. Today kids and adults take courses to improve leadership skills and public interaction but they forget that standing in a class of 20 students and speaking, or doing a project, may not be real personality development. The real personality is developed when a person performs on ground and even though the performance may not be great importance it generates an inner confidence. This psyche also enables youth and even elder to understand the surrounding and their concerns. The positive aspect of such creative work is the sense of achievement which helps in eliminating depression and other mental tensions.
I see my nana jee, and one thing I always notice is is activeness. He keeps up with doing something or the other even at this age of 84. The positive feature about it is, that you don't feel alone, you have a reason to exist even at old age and a high moral spirit that you still contribute. These factors are very essential for even the senior generation of country.
All in all, even senior people can start to do something which is useful and beneficial to society than to think that its too late. The question then comes is what to do. Well if you are a graduate then you can start some tuitions to some non privileged students with out fee. If you are motived for plantation drive then get associated with some NGO and try to volunteer when you have time on weekends. If your education lets you help in some kind of infrastructural help then you can do it.
All these things happen with the help of some organization which have already found the problems and working on it. May be you are a loner and then you can start to do things from step one and may be you will form your own organisation.
But doing a little bit helps everyone. Work is the best friend for all.
